What changed on 1 July 2026
NBN Co sells to your internet provider, not to you. CVC, its usage-based charge for shared capacity, ended on the remaining tiers on 1 July 2026 (it was removed from 100Mbps and faster tiers in December 2023).
What stays is AVC, a fixed monthly charge for your speed tier.
How to read the terms
AVC and CVC are wholesale charges. Your provider decides how to price them into your plan, so a flat plan price is not a guarantee of a low bill.
Typical evening speed is the speed during busy hours. The ACCC guidance asks providers to show it instead of "up to" speeds. Check it, not the tier's headline Mbps.
Promo price often lasts 6 months, then the standard price applies.
3 things to check on your bill
- Standard price. The monthly price after the promo ends. Where: the plan summary or the first bill.
- Typical evening speed. The figure for your plan, not just the tier name. Where: the critical information summary.
- Extra charges. Modem, setup and contract length. Where: the same summary.
