Five scam signs in Jobs and Marketplace posts

What to look for

Our posting rules rule out the first three in Jobs and Marketplace. Any of these five is a reason to be careful.
  1. Money before you meet. A deposit, holding fee or "admin fee" asked for upfront.
  2. A payment link. A link to pay or "secure" the deal outside BillCrew.
  3. Pay that sounds wrong. Below-minimum wages, or cash in hand with no payslip.
  4. Moving the chat elsewhere. A push to leave the site for another app straight away.
  5. ID or account details first. Documents, bank logins or codes requested before any real work or sale.

Why it is risky

Once money, documents or logins are sent, they are hard to get back. Unpaid or unrecorded work also leaves you without payslips, super or protection if something goes wrong.

What to do

Stop and send nothing more. Keep the chat and screenshots. Report the post from the ⋯ menu using "Report this post". The same stop-and-check habit applies to fake bill calls, and the scams and safety guide has more.
